The Journey That Touched Thousands

Like most Australians, Damian had never given much thought to MND, until the day a doctor’s words changed everything. For Damian, his wife Jane and their three sons, life would never look the same again. But from that moment, a new family motto was born: “We Got This.”

This remarkable family began documenting their journey through a Facebook page “Damian’s Journey and Fight with MND,” sharing the raw, unfiltered reality of life with motor neurone disease.

What started as a way to keep family and friends informed grew into something far greater. With over 13,000 followers, their page has become a lifeline for families navigating their own diagnoses, and has taken the family on an extraordinary journey — including dinner at the Governor-General’s residence and a meeting with the remarkable Neale Daniher.

This is a reminder to us all that we are never as far from a different life as we think. “We are all one accident, one diagnosis, one unexpected phone call away from a completely different life.”
